Tiny Tower

Sometimes people can find inspiration in strange places. This time I took a look at a vinegar bottle that had a cool shape and immediately thought: I can make it into a fairy house. The idea was to create an enchanted tower with tiny doors and windows that seem to be placed there out of order and plan. As if fairies themselves built the tower, without bothering with human principles of construction.

I covered the empty vinegar bottle with slabs of air-drying clay and took my time carving windows and other details. I added small elements and details, such as roof tiles, outbuildings and stairs, with pieces of cardboard, balsa wood and small pieces of wood that I had lying around. I also carved out a few bricks and doors for additional detail. The roof is also made out of small bits of clay: each small piece of roof tile creates an interesting texture, ensuring the structure is not a flat, uniform surface. I placed the tower on a rectangular piece of styrofoam, which I connected with hot glue and additional clay.

I wanted the base to resemble a small section of a forest garden. It features tiny pebbles, moss, an earthy ground texture. With wire and felt I was able to make heather flowers, which are half the hight of the tower itself.

At the end I colored everything using acrylic paint and added last details. Gold leaf sheets that I put on windows add a beautiful shimmer to the sculpture. Apart from that I also used colorful pebbles, fake crystals, wire and fake moss to make a full illusion of an enchanted tower. If you pay attention, you will be able to see numerous tiny windows, ladders, entrances and even a small patio with a side entrance to the tiny building.

To make the tower look neat, I placed it on a scrap of wood that I had from another project. All I had to do was sand it a bit, stain it and use gorilla glue to help it adhere to the tower. Last but not least, I put fairy lights with a plastic cork in the bottle. When you turn the lights on, the windows in the tower glow warmly, bringing the whole little fairy-tale world to life.
